"Slate" goes French.. with some delay

A French version of Slate was supposed to launch on January 17th but because of "difficulties" finding the 2 to 3 millions Euros (!) needed for funding, it has been delayed. Former Le Monde director Jean-Marie Colombany is leading the operation, which will present a mix of American articles translated and original reporting in French. Colombani's rival, Edwy Plenel, has already launched his own "pure player" a while ago, Mediapart.
The original title, "Slate", which is "ardoise" in French, should remain in English.
